How did you get started hunting grouse?
When I was a young boy, I used to shoot ducks over decoys on Rush Lake in Wadena County with my grandfather. After the morning shoot I would hop out of the 14 Lund duck boat, wade to the edge floating bog that lined the lakeshore, navigate the treacherous floating matt to the solid shoreline, sit at the base of an old oak tree, slip off my chest waders and chase grouse in my stocking feet in the Oaks and alders that lined the edge of the lake.

What makes a great grouse dog in your opinion?
One that hunts for you, is honest and has some bird manners.

What’s one mistake you see hunters make in grouse cover?
There are no mistakes in a grouse cover.

Whichever one is in your hands
